February is Black History Month, and 2026 marks 100 years of national Black history commemorations. This centennial celebrates the visionaries who advance equality and preserve the history of Black Americans, and the moments that continue to shape progress today. As we celebrate, learn some key historical moments that advance our world.
1964: The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlaws discrimination and reshapes civil rights protections nationwide.
1968: The Fair Housing Act of 1968 prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, or financing of housing.
1981: Dr. Alexa Canady becomes the first Black woman neurosurgeon in the U.S., advancing excellence and representation in medicine.
2013: The founding of Black Lives Matter reframes global conversations around justice, dignity, and the value of Black lives.
2016: Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture opens in Washington DC, cementing Black history as central to the American story.

We're thrilled to welcome our new Dining Services Director, Micah Wakefield!
Micah grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho. At 17, she joined the Navy as a hospital corpsman, gaining firsthand experience in healthcare. After completing her service, Micah used her passion for service in a new way, swapping her scrubs for chef whites at Le Cordon Bleu in Seattle.
Today, Micah blends both worlds together in culinary at our senior living community! Here she cultivates a unique dining experience based in connection and, of course, delicious food.
Outside the kitchen, Micah loves skiing, spending time outdoors, and experimenting with new recipes at home, enjoyed by her husband and dog. We're excited for the elevated dining experience Micah brings to our community. Welcome, Micah! ... See MoreSee Less
