Employees and residents with Avamere at South Hill, an assisted living community in Spokane, Washington, threw a surprise party for “Mail Carrier Koby” to thank him for his service. They surprised Koby Best as he delivered mail Thursday, April 21 at about 11:30 a.m.
The lobby was filled with residents, employees, and local press. They cheered as he entered the building and surprised him with a thoughtful card, balloons, and a new satchel filled with snacks to enjoy along his route.
“Sometimes we’re waiting there, and he’s so nice,” one resident said. “We love him.”
Koby expressed how thankful he was. “I really do appreciate you guys,” he shared while holding his gifts.
Koby works with the Regal Street Post Office and has been a mail carrier for two and a half years. According to Regal Street Post Office, Best has the largest route in the city, covering four retirement communities in addition to his street route.
Koby delivered mail to Avamere at South Hill during COVID-19, a welcome visit during a challenging time, as he was the only one from the outside (aside from Avamere employees) allowed into the building. Residents enjoy his visits five days a week.
“The residents love him dearly,” states Ann Beyer, Director of Sales & Outreach with Avamere at South Hill.
She shared that now the postal office can add something new to their motto:
“Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail or COVID shall keep the postmen from their appointed deliveries.”
